Playstation 3 Vs Xbox 360 Round 2 Battle Of The Motion Control Systems

Are you ready for Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360, Round 2?

What used to be a battle for better graphics, better game play, better online multiplayer experience and better storyline modes has taken a cue from the runaway leader of the current generation of consoles, the Nintendo Wii.  The battle has graduated from a number crunching war involving processing power, onboard memory and polygons per second into a more practical war involving, you guessed it, motion control systems.

The Nintendo Wii presented a new way of enjoying games: making one’s body the controller.  Using a motion sensing controller, the Wii introduced new game play mechanics that attracted previous non-gamers into the fold and gave birth to an entirely new generation of video game enthusiasts collectively labeled as casual gamers.

Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 round 2 is all about replicating the Wii’s success.

Indeed, Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 is all about which console will be better in integrating a motion control system as part of its current engineering.

The Microsoft Xbox 360, this early, seems to have the edge.  With Project Natal introduced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2009 by no less than legendary film director Steven Spielberg himself, Project Natal made a rousing debut.  The technical presentation involved a virtual boy interacting with a female player.  The player can talk to the boy and the boy will reply.  The player can walk with the boy and the boy will follow.  The player can even play games with the boy and the boy will react accordingly.

What makes Project Natal possible is a motion sensing camera that works in reverse, an idea that can only be described as a stroke of genius.  The camera calculates the space presented before it, and senses the player’s motion within this space for an accurate representation inside the game.

This early, Microsoft is contemplating on repackaging and rereleasing the Xbox 360 to include Project Natal.

Is the Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 round 2 rout, though?

Not really.  You know that Sony won’t go down without a fight.

The Playstation 3’s motion control system is a combination of the Wiimote and Project Natal.  It includes a motion sensing controller (which looks like a wand) and the Playstation Eye.  The reason for this?  Well, Sony wanted a more accurate motion control system, hence the usage of both a remote controller and a camera.  Sony also realized what Microsoft failed to realize with Project Natal, the most game play mechanics will require buttons, hence the wand-like peripheral.

Who will win Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 round 2?

We will know by the middle of 2010, when the integration and implementation of both motion control systems are in full swing.

Top 4 Exclusives That Define The Nintendo DSi

The number one selling point of the Nintendo DSi isn’t the new features that were added to the unit.  The number one selling point of the Nintendo DSi is, and will always be, the list of exclusives that will only appear on a Nintendo console.

Below are the top 4 exclusives that will carry the Nintendo DSi to amazing heights of success:

1.  Mario.  If video game is to be assigned a mascot, it should be Mario.  It would be a crime to promote another character to be the ambassador of electronic entertainment.  Mario is the most recognizable figure in the video game industry.  Every Mario title that is released is a cause for celebration, and the Nintendo DSi is one of only two current generation video game systems that will serve as homes for this digital superstar.  With games like New Super Mario Bros., Mario & Luigi, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, not to mention the other titles where the affable plumber makes a cameo, we can say that the Nintendo DSi has been blessed with a gracious serving of Mario madness.

2. Mario Kart.  Indeed, Mario Kart is another Mario title, but it has completely defined an entire genre that the franchise is worth an entry of its own in this prestigious list.   The first Mario Kart, released on the SNES, revolutionized racing games with fantastic physics and exciting game play.  Every installment of the series since then has been met with much enthusiasm and excitement, and each entry never failed the humongous expectations they were burdened with.  With Mario Kart DS, the Nintendo DSi received what can very well be the best racing game EVER, one which provides an online multiplayer experience that doubles the excitement and the value of the package.

3. Legend of Zelda.  Many believe that the Legend of Zelda series is Shigeru Miyamoto’s greatest creation.  That’s saying a lot about the guy who gave us Mario, F-Zero, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, and most recently, Wii Music.  But people who believe such a claim have a strong argument going for them: that the Legend of Zelda games are some of the finest titles ever released for any console.  Take, for example, the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64.  It is the first game that ever received a perfect 10 from EGM and Gamespot.  It also received the perfect score from many other review outlets.  No Legend of Zelda game ever received a score below 90% (or its equivalent in other rating scales).  Blessed be the Nintendo DSi then, for it enjoys two Zelda games: the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and the Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

4. Pokemon!  Gotta catch ‘em all!  The hit monster collecting game has become nothing short of a global phenomenon.  Originally intended for kids, the game has even captured the imagination of adults as well.  The Nintendo DSi is home to Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, games that were hailed to have revitalized the multi-billion dollar franchise.  Soon to arrive on the Nintendo DSi are Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver.

Is The Nintendo DS Light Worth The Purchase

To call it a Nintendo DS Light is a common mistake.  After all, the “Lite” that is attached to its formal name, the Nintendo DS Lite, is not really a word.  Rather, it is a play on words which is in turn a play on the improvements of the Nintendo DS Lite, or the Nintendo DS Light if you insist, over the original Nintendo DS.

So, how big of an improvement is this Nintendo DS Light over the original Nintendo DS?

Furthermore, do these improvements justify purchasing the Nintendo DS Light even if you already own the original Nintendo DS?

To answer the question, let’s go back in time to the release of the original Nintendo DS.  The Nintendo DS was a technological marvel for its time.  It was light years ahead of its immediate predecessor, the Gameboy Advance.  Surely, the improved graphics and the faster processing (and rendering) power were expected from the newer generation of handheld console, but the Nintendo DS also added some revolutionary features that shocked the world.

Armed with the philosophy of revolutionizing the way people play games – something which Nintendo also applied in conceptualizing and developing its bigger console, the Nintendo Wii – the Nintendo DS implemented a two screen display feature, a touch screen functionality, microphone integration, and a dedication to creating fully interactive games.

The video game industry was never the same after the original Nintendo DS was released.

With titles like Nintendogs, a life simulation game that allowed the player to take care of a beautifully rendered dog, the original Nintendo DS conquered the sales charts and never looked back.

However, despite the praises which the original Nintendo DS garnered were some glaring criticisms that threatened the marketability of the system:

- The unit is too bulky that it’s barely portable as it cannot fit in most pockets.
- The unit is too heavy.
- The display is too dark.
- The unit eats up a lot of battery life for a few hours of play.
- The microphone is awkwardly positioned that it’s hard to speak to it in the middle of a game.

The Nintendo DS Light, the second incarnation of the handheld system, remedied all of these problems.

As we have mentioned earlier, it is formally called as DS Lite, with “Lite” being a play on the word “Light.”  The Nintendo DS Light is, well, lighter than the original DS by as much as 50%.  The Nintendo DS Light also boasts of a brighter screen.  The Nintendo DS Light also allows a longer battery life for the unit, mainly because of the added brightness level which the user can opt to use, depending on the current environmental lighting.

Do these improvements make the Nintendo DS Light a justifiable purchase even for people who already own the original Nintendo DS?

Probably not, but the Nintendo DS Light is the best choice for people who have yet to experience the pleasures provided by Nintendo’s newest wonder toy.

How Will The Sony PSP Go Change The Homebrew Scene

Ask any Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) owner what he thinks is the best thing about the handheld system, and you’ll be surprised by the answer.  No, it’s not the amazing graphics made possible by a fantastic high resolution LCD screen and amazing processing power capabilities.  No, it’s not the library of games currently available for the Sony PSP.  No, it’s not the upcoming games that will define the future of the portable gaming machine.

The best thing about the Sony PSP is the homebrew community it has inspired.  Truly, this homebrew community has salvaged the system from many market difficulties in the past.  During the fiscal year 2008-2009, for example, when there seemed to be a drought with regards to new games being released for the system which led many to believe that the Sony PSP was on its last legs, the homebrew community rescued the Sony PSP populace from boredom and disillusionment.  With a slew of 3rd party games and utilities created for the Sony PSP, the handheld continued to enjoy brisk sales despite the limited number of games that were being made available in the market.

Now, a few months before the release of the Sony PSP Go!, many homebrew developers are in a state of uncertainty about the future of their hobby and their passion.

You see, what makes homebrews possible on the Sony PSP are the custom firmware updates that can be used to replace Sony’s official firmware updates.  These custom firmware updates bypass the security checks that accompany the official ones.  Official Sony PSP firmware updates detect homebrews as illegal copies of games, and it blocks their load ups, making it impossible for the player to use them.  Custom firmware updates remedy this problem.

But with the coming of the Sony PSP Go! and with Sony’s plan of doing away with UMD support and concentrating exclusively on downloadable games for future releases, there is a very big possibility that some added security checks will be implemented that will make custom firmware updates obsolete.
Indeed, without custom firmware updates, piracy on the Sony PSP and the Sony PSP Go! will be a thing of the past, which is good.

But without custom firmware updates, homebrews on the Sony PSP and the Sony PSP Go! will also be impossible.

Is this the end of homebrews?

Fear not, homebrew lovers!

Even if Sony pushes with its plan to release future titles via online downloads or via specialty kiosks that will be set up everywhere, custom firmware updates will still be possible for the handheld gaming system.

Sony may introduce new security checks to protect the integrity of its chosen medium (downloadable content), but these security checks will be introduced to older Sony PSP models via official firmware updates – things that have been bypassed before and can be bypassed again.

Additional security checks can be introduced to older models via the games themselves, but since you’re planning to use custom firmware updates merely for homebrews and not for anything illegal, you have nothing to fear.

Sony realizes the extreme importance of the homebrew community for the Sony PSP.  Sony may not officially acknowledge these legal “hacks” to their system, but they can always give their tacit consent to the dedicated men and women who desire to extend the functionalities of the Sony PSP.  The homebrew community is here to stay.

A List Of 5 Sony PSP Accessories You Shouldnt Live Without

The Sony PSP is a hardy handheld console.  The failure rate of this nifty, little machine is amazingly low, making it one of the best investments for people who dig portable gaming.

But the console can be improved with the aid of some Sony PSP accessories.  These Sony PSP accessories can lengthen the lifespan and extend the functionality of the Playstation Portable.

Below is a list of 5 Sony PSP accessories that are very much worth your hard earned cash:

1.  LCD screen protector.  Scratches and dead pixels… you wouldn’t want these on your Sony PSP’s gorgeous LCD screen.  Hence, you will need an LCD screen protector, an acrylic plastic sticker that you can spread on the surface of your unit’s LCD screen to prevent those nasty scratches and minimize the development of unsightly dead pixels.  LCD screen protectors should be the primary Sony PSP accessories you should consider purchasing.

2. Sony PSP faceplate.  Faceplates are often seen as decorative components that customize the look of a PSP unit to make it stand out from other handheld consoles.  Faceplates, however, are not just aesthetic Sony PSP accessories.  They will also protect the surface of your unit from breakage in case of falls and other similar accidents.

3. USB cable and/or a memory card reader.  The Sony PSP is a multimedia monster.  As such, you should expect to upload a lot of files to its internal memory or to the expanded storage provided by a memory card.  To be able to upload such files, you will need a USB cable or a memory card reader.  Both are quite cheap Sony PSP accessories which can be purchased for less than $10.  Both, however, are essential Sony PSP accessories if you want to get the most out of your unit.

4. Microfiber cleaning cloth.  Ask any piano black Sony PSP owner, and they’ll be in unison when they tell you that the number one problem that plagues their units isn’t about disc-reading errors or hardware malfunctions or networking issues.  The Sony PSP excels in all those areas.  The number one problem that plagues their units is the ease by which their surfaces retain thumb prints and the difficulty in removing them.  This, of course, can be remedied by using a microfiber cleaning cloth which is specifically designed for such a purpose.  Looking for Sony PSP accessories.  This piece of cloth may look simple, but it is something very, very essential if your Sony PSP is painted piano black.

5. Headphones.  Carrying a Sony PSP and an iPod or an iPhone?  Too bulky for your pocket.  Your Sony PSP, being the multimedia monster that it is, can serve as an MP3 player as well.  Simply upload your favorite MP3 files to your Sony PSP via USB cable or via memory card, and voila, you’re all set to go.  Oh wait.  Naturally, you’d want to make the enjoyment of your music selection a personal and intimate experience.  This is the reason why headphones are one of the better selling Sony PSP accessories in the market today.

3 Ways To Win Nintendo DSi Before Christmas Of This Year

The Nintendo DSi is a wonderful upgrade to the company’s flagship portable gaming system.  However, it is quite expensive at $139.99 SRP.  This has led many people to look for opportunities that will help them win Nintendo DSi unit for free.

Below are 3 such methods that can help you win Nintendo DSi:

1.  Join contests.  This is, without a doubt, the most popular way to win Nintendo DSi.  However, this offers the least chances of actually winning.  Never think that you’re the only one who’ll enter an online or an offline contest to win Nintendo DSi.  There will be hundreds, if not thousands, of other avid gamers who want to have the chance to score a Nintendo DSi for themselves.  You’ll have better chances of winning if the contest is skills-based or talent-based, such as a writing competition or other events that require the exercise of one’s creativity and artistic gifts.  This way, your fate will be in your hands.

2. Try to request for a review copy.  If you own a website, there is one nifty trick that can help you win Nintendo DSi for free.  You can send a request to Nintendo for a review copy of their handheld gaming system.  The grant of such a request depends on a variety of things.  First would be the statistics of your website.  It’s going to be a “what’s in it for me?” deal.  Nintendo, or any of its affiliated companies which you may have approached, will want to know what they stand to gain in exchange for the Nintendo DSi they will send your way.  They will look at your website and determine if the subject of the same is relevant to their product.  They will look at how your web pages are presented, because they will only want to associate themselves with professionals, and the professionalism of your business will be reflected on how well your web pages are conveyed.  Then, they will look at the most important detail of them all: the amount of traffic you generate for your website.  If you own and operate a small scale website that generates a serviceable amount of visitors, then you’ll find it difficult to win Nintendo DSi via this method.  But hey, it’s worth the try.  You have nothing to lose in the first place.

3. Try affiliate marketing.  Some electronic entertainment web stores offer affiliate programs.  You can opt to enroll under these programs.  Thereafter, you will be given an affiliate link.  Your goal would be to promote the merchant’s products using your affiliate link.  Every time you manage to refer a visitor to the web store, and every time such a visitor decides to make a purchase, you will earn a stated reward.  Such a reward may be in the form of cash, which will be calculated based on a certain percentage of the selling price of the item sold.  Or the reward can be in the form of store credits which you can spend, like real cash, on the products offered by the web store.  Either way, you can use your accumulated rewards to sort of win Nintendo DSi unit.

Which Is Better Nintendo DS Or Sony PSP

The Sega Game Gear?  Pffft.  It was as much a challenge to the then reigning king, the Nintendo Gameboy, as a local football club in Tibet would be when pitted against the Reds of Manchester United.  The truth is, Nintendo has remained unchallenged in the handheld gaming department since it released the very first Gameboy, and it has continued to rule the roost with the current dominance of the Nintendo DS.

That is, until now.

With this generation of portable video gaming consoles, the Nintendo DS is facing stiff and unwavering competition from the Sony Playstation Portable, or PSP for brevity.  The battle isn’t really neck-to-neck, but the Sony PSP is winning in certain regions in the world, something that Nintendo never had to endure with its previous handhelds.  Surely, the Nintendo DS must realize that the Sony PSP wouldn’t just vanish in the night like the defeated Sega Game Gear.

The question in many people’s minds – particularly those who are planning to buy a portable gaming system for themselves – is this: which among the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP is the better investment?

Let’s answer this important question by breaking it down into 4 important sub-questions that will ultimately tell us the handheld that will define this generation of portable gaming.

Learn How To Unlock any Nintendo Wii and Play Homebrew Games

1. Which console is more powerful?  This is a “no contest,” really.  The Sony PSP is designed for power, with two 333MHz processors rendering game play and fantastic graphics.  The screen of PSP alone is built for widescreen gaming.  And its games consume more digital space than Nintendo DS titles.  A Nintendo DS game is usually less than 100MB.  A Sony PSP game ranges from 300MB to 1.5GB.  WINNER: Sony PSP.

2. Which console has more games?  Many experts say that software creates hardware and not the other way around.  What would you do with a highly powerful handheld if you won’t have any games to play with it, right?  When it comes to depth of gaming library, the Nintendo DS is the runaway winner.  Its releases outnumber the releases of its competitor by a ratio of almost 4:1.  There are many development companies focusing only on developing games for the Nintendo DS.  WINNER: Nintendo DS.

3. Which console has more multimedia functions?  It’s true that there are so many gadgets these days that perform a specialized function.  Ipods play music.

PDAs allow mobile browsing and data mining.  Digital cameras take pictures and videos.  Cellular phones serve as personal organizers aside from being communication devices.  However, the trend these days is for a gadget to at least attempt to become a Swiss knife of sorts for the technology-crazy market.

Handhelds are no different.  The more functions they serve, the better they will appear for potential buyers.  The Nintendo DS play limited audio and video files.  The Sony PSP can play many audio formats and an accepted MP4 file type for videos.  The Sony PSP can also surf the web, store a variety of data, act as a TV (with the aid of a TV tuner), and serve as a remote controller for the Playstation 3, even if the console is in another continent.  WINNER: Sony PSP.

4. Which console has more exclusives?  No doubt, not a single company can compete with Nintendo.  The Nintendo DS is the home of original properties like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon , Donkey Kong, Kirby, Animal Crossing and many more.  These are the biggest selling points of the system.  WINNER: Nintendo DS.

So we’re tied, 2-2.  Which system is better: the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP?  It really depends on what you expect from the handheld machine.  If you’re going for functionality and raw power, then choose the Sony PSP.  But if you’re looking for a memorable, an exciting, and most importantly, a varied gaming experience, then the Nintendo DS is a better choice.

Whats New With The New Nintendo DSi

The new Nintendo Dsi was met with lots of excitement when it was released in April of 2009.  It can even be considered as a commercial success, though it failed to beat the record set by the first incarnation of the Nintendo DS.  Nevertheless, the new Nintendo DSi has proven a point: that there is a healthy market of passionate users for an upgraded model of an existing product.

Learn How To Unlock any Nintendo Wii and Play Homebrew Games

The new Nintendo DSi was packaged by the company as a handheld that even old DS owners would want to own.

Guess what?

Nintendo was right.

So, what’s new with the new Nintendo DSi?  Here are some features that many people believe justifies the purchase of a new Nintendo DSi:

- A sleeker, sexier and lighter design.  The new Nintendo DSi is actually 12% thinner than the previous incarnation, the Nintendo DS Lite.  With the new Nintendo DSi, the handheld can actually be considered a “hand” held device as it will fit anyone’s hand.

- An additional level of brightness.  The first Nintendo DS was heavily criticized for its ability to strain the user’s eyes with dark lighting.  The Nintendo DS Lite made the screen brighter, but also allowed the unit to consume more battery life at the highest brightness setting.  The new Nintendo DSi adds yet another level of brightness, but this time, battery life is said to be optimized for such a feature.

- Dual cam.  One camera in front, one camera at the back.  Both cameras come with 0.3 megapixel resolution, nothing special, but adequate for the purposes that the new Nintendo DSi has planned for them.

- Better audio playback.  The new Nintendo DSi can now compete with the best MP3 players in the market.

Learn How To Unlock any Nintendo Wii and Play Homebrew Games

- Improved WiFi connectivity.  Difficulties in connecting online are now things of the past.  The new Nintendo DSi can immediately connect to the net whenever a connection is detected, and the player can immediately compete with other DSi users from all over the world.  Additionally, because of the improved internet connectivity, digital downloads are now a critical part of the new Nintendo DSi’s marketing strategy.  The DSi Shop has been improved as well to accommodate the new handheld.  Titles from old Nintendo consoles (and other 8bit and 16bit systems as well) can also be purchased and played on the DSi.

- External SD slot.  Now you can save all the new files you can take and play with your DSi on an external storage device.  You’re no longer a slave to the system’s limited internal memory.

Are these new features enough to make the new Nintendo DSi a “must buy?”  Well, many people in the UK and the US believe it is, as evidenced by the more than 600,000 sales garnered by the system in its first two days of launch.

The Future Of The Playstation 3 Five PS3 Games That Will Make Or Break The System In 2009

Even the so-called “fanboys” would agree, the Sony Playstation 3 has been trailing the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 in terms of sales since the day the PS3 was launched.  Sony promised consumers that it will regain the market leadership by the end of 2007 – a leadership it once enjoyed with the Playstation 2 (PS2) – but it didn’t happen, mainly because of the lack of console-defining exclusives.  Sonly promised consumers that 2008 will be the PS3’s year, but this didn’t materialize despite strong showings from Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4) and Little Big Planet.

Learn How To Unlock any Nintendo Wii and Play Homebrew Games

And now, Sony has once again promised that 2009 will be the glory year of the PS3.

Its patrons are becoming impatient.  Industry experts believe that 2009 is the “make or break” year for the PS3.  2009, they say, is the year that will either mark the PS3 as a worthy entry to Sony’s series of console excellence, or brand the PS3 as a market failure despite its clearly superior engineering.

For 2009, the PS3 is banking on 5 key titles that it hopes will finally bring the console to the top of the sales charts.  These games are:

1.  Killzone 2.  Released last February, Killzone 2 – one of the PS3’s most hyped games, which the industry has eagerly awaited since 2004 – is well on its way to saving Sony’s reputation as a leader in the video game market.  The title sold 2 million copies on its first month, a feat that is truly fascinating for a game which is exclusive to a single console.

2. God of War 3.  Since its first installment, Kratos has quickly become the poster boy for Sony, and God of War has quickly become the flagship title for the company’s gaming division.  No matter how bleak things look when it comes to sales, Sony can always be comforted by the fact that the next God of War is just around the corner.

Learn How To Unlock any Nintendo Wii and Play Homebrew Games

3. Final Fantasy XIII.  The PS3 lost big time when Square-Enix decided to publish FFXIII on the Xbox 360 as well, at least in areas outside Japan.  The next installment of the blockbuster Final Fantasy series will still be exclusive to the PS3 in its country of origin, and this will most certainly help boost the sales for the console.  Outside Japan, FFXIII may still win some console sales, as the Final Fantasy franchise has long been associated with Sony’s machines and given the long playtime provided by the game, issues on the Xbox 360’s engineering reliability may force buyers to choose the PS3 version.

4. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  Its predecessor, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, was the first “must buy” exclusive for the PS3.  The sequel, which is said to combine elements of Gears of War, Tomb Raider, and FPS multiplayer mayhem, will be a hundred times better than the original.  Gamers are excited about Uncharted 2, and this will reflect on the PS3 console sales.

5. Massive Action Game (MAG).  Forget Resistance 2’s 64-player team death matches.  Prepare for a truly wide scale war with MAG, one that will involve up to 256 players at the same time.  Little is known about the game, however.  If it lives up to its promises, it can be the PS3 title that will make other FPS multiplayer games obsolete.  If it doesn’t, it will be the Kane and Lynch of 2009.

Will these games finally catapult the Sony PS3 to the throne it once owned unchallenged?

Only time, and your gaming dollar, will tell.
